To expedite the shift to a circular economy within the city, the Quezon City Government has collaborated with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Japanese Government under the Accelerating Nationally Determined Contribution through Circular Economy in Cities Project or the ACE Project, technical assistance led by UNDP through the Environmental Management Bureau. The ongoing assistance started in March 2022 and will be completed in March 2024. The Quezon City LGU is one of the five local government partners of the project. Under the ACE Project, the city received a Community to Farm Mobile Organic Waste Recovery System which introduces biodigesters and a mobile food waste collection system in urban farms and barangays. These biodigesters employ a biogas digestion system to convert organic materials, such as food scraps and animal waste, into biogas for cooking and a nutrient-rich liquid for gardening. The city was provided with a new six-wheeler truck for collecting biodegradable waste from communities, along with 25 biodigesters placed in urban farms and barangays. The support is expected to help the city reach its 50 percent waste diversion target and move towards a climate-resilient, low-carbon future. In addition to these new installations, the city already has six biodigesters in public markets and community farms. Furthermore, Quezon City has initiated various circular economy strategies and promotes the "Prevent, Reduce, Recycle, and Recover" campaign.
