Protect Wildlife Project (PWP) and Combating Environmental Organized Crime in the Philippines (IWT)
Protect Wildlife Project (PWP) and Combating Environmental Organized Crime in the Philippines (IWT)
The projects Protect Wildlife Project (PWP) and Combating Environmental Organized Crime in the Philippines (IWT) both focuses on the reduction of threats to biodiversity, due to poaching and use of illegally harvested wildlife and wildlife products, through the amendment of policies related to wildlife management, conservation and wildlife crimes in the country and its implementation. Capacity/competency buildings are major activities under these projects. However, it was observed that some of those activities are overlapping and some are complementing in order to support the projects objectives. For those that are overlapping, merging the activities is recommended and for those that are complementing, proper planning and coordination will be conducted by the project staff concerned in order to minimize costs and at the same time maximize the time and efforts of the participants and resource persons. A partnership agreement will be forged between the two projects in order to formalize their collaboration in terms of capacity/competency development. Further, a database of all participants will be developed in order to assess the existing and lacking competencies for the development appropriate capacity/competency building activities which are responsive to the needs of the stakeholders as well as to attain the objectives of the project.
