Bagsakan Market in Carles, Iloilo
Bagsakan Market in Carles, Iloilo
The Bagsakan Market established in Brgy. Bancal, Carles, Iloilo is one of the financially viable interventions intended to increase the incomes of the target beneficiaries. The market provides easy access to buyers of fish and other marine products and decreases the transportation costs shouldered by the sellers. The facility has 20 market stalls which are rented out to farmers, fisherfolks and small-scale business people, mainly women. Aside from the physical infrastructure, the marketing and bidding procedure being practiced improves the income-generating strategy of the vendors, as the catch is concentrated and the fish is being auctioned to the highest bidder, as compared to prior practice where vendors buy fish individually at low prices. This strategy allows fishermen to increase income by 50%.
