Bamboo Furniture and Handicraft Industry for Sustainable Community Development and Environmental Protection: Project Completion Report

The project “Bamboo Furniture and Handicraft Industry for Sustainable Community Development and Environmental Protection” was proposed by DENR CENRO- San Jose, Occidental Mindoro in 2017 and approved by FASPS, DENR in 2018. The project agreement was signed in May, 2018 with a total budget of Php 868,000.00. The project was implemented for a total of 12 months beginning from July 2018 and ending on December 2019.

The development objective of the project is to improve the socio-economic condition of the ATPDAI and contribute to sustainable forest resources conservation. Specifically, the project aims to:

1. Deliver supplementary income opportunities to the community to utilize and enhance to full potential the skill of ATPDAI and the abundant renewable supply of bamboo;

2. Upgrade community-based bamboo products for readiness to possible bigger market; and

3. Equip the residents with the understanding on authorized, environment-friendly and sustainable resource management.

The project has three (3) expected major outputs as follows: (1) bamboo handicraft and furniture prototypes developed and improved; (2) product label and packaging developed; and (3) marketing strategy in collaboration with the DTI.
