Subproject Completion Report: Tagana-an – Surigao City Mangrove Rehabilitation Subproject

The Tagana-an – Surigao City Mangrove Rehabilitation Subproject is located in Surigao del Norte with some portions covering Barangays Himamaug, Sampaguita, Opong, Fabio and Banban in the Municipality of Tagana-an and some portions in Surigao City particularly in Barangays Nabago, Cabongbongan and Manjagao. Being once an ideal spawning and feeding grounds for milkfish fries and other marine life, it was imperative to embark on the rehabilitation of the mangroves and the restoration of its productive and protective functions.

With the project, the mangrove forest improved with the employment of laborers hired to do Comprehensive Site Development activities resulting to not only an upgraded environment but significant enhancement in the community’s earning capacity as well.

The Tagana-an – Surigao City Mangrove Rehabilitation Subproject is another concrete example of the positive complementation of livelihood opportunities and improvement of the environment. Sufficient inputs to better their socio-economic condition coupled with trainings on managerial skills and awareness on the environment go a long way in converting community members to be sustainable development advocates.
