Subcompletion Report: Northern Iloilo Mangrove Rehabilitation Subproject
With an area coverage of 531.44 hectares, the Subproject has served as social and technical laboratory to notable institutions involved in fisheries development such as the Southeast Asia Fisheries Development Center (SEAFDEC) and University of the Philippines-Visayas. It has also played host to other sectors interested in mangrove technology and the lessons learned in project implementation.
In terms of employment generation, it has directly benefited a total of 391 People's Organization (PO) members and an additional 200 members from adjacent communities as a result of small businesses that have mushroomed. Increased economic activity also augmented household income of community members.
Sustainability of the Subproject is enhanced with the turn-over of some structures like the multi-purpose drying yard and shed for use of the community in processing seaweeds including agricultural products.
Firm commitment in community development that promotes the enhancement of sound environment and improvement of living condition was evident in the implementation of the Northern Iloilo Mangrove Rehabilitation Subproject.
