Subproject Completion Report: Coron Watershed Rehabilitation Subproject

The Coron Watershed Subproject is located in Busuanga Island, Palawan and has about 2,250 hectares in area coverage. The Subproject will improve the watershed’s significant role in the economic development of the Island through rehabilitation of the environment and improvement of socio-economic status of local communities. The watershed has also been envisioned to support the irrigation services of the National Irrigation Administration (NIA).

In terms of improving the economic condition of the project beneficiaries, involvement in the Community Site Development (CSD) activities as well as infrastructure and livelihood projects generated some 238,379-man days thus contributing to the alleviation of poverty in the area. The Subproject also caused the substantial increase in their gross annual income from PHP10, 561.00 to PHP17, 578.00.

As a means of empowering the project participants not only economically but also in terms of valuable knowledge necessary in managing the CBFM area, several trainings on various topics among others, nursery operation, basic water management, basic accounting and bookkeeping benefited a total of 1,367 members.
