The Integrated Information Management System (IIMS) for Coastal and Marine Environment is a desktop database application developed by the Partnerships in Environmental Management for the Seas of East Asia (PEMSEA). The application manages a relational database of environmental data and provides timely data recording and updating of information for management and technological intervention.
Pursuant to the guidelines on the development/management of Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) in support of the establishment of MPA Networks (MPANs) under Technical Bulletin No. 2017-06 of the Coastal and Marine Ecosystems Management Program (CMEMP), the foreign-assisted initiative titled ‘Strengthening the Marine Protected Areas to Conserve Marine Key Biodiversity Areas in the Philippines’ or SMARTSEAS PH project aimed to address inadequate biogeographic representation and spatial coverage of MPAs, specifically to scale-up MPAs to MPA Networks and strengthen its management effectiveness.
Since the issuance of Presidential Decree 705 (Forestry Reform Code) in 1975, the Department in collaboration with the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) of the Department of Agriculture (DA) have made joint and separate policies towards corrective action (i.e. Administrative Orders and General & Joint Memorandum Orders) in the management of abandoned, undeveloped, and underutilized (AUU) ponds.
Ecosystem-based adaption (EbA) is a people-centric concept that links biodiversity and ecosystem conservation to help people adapt to climate change. Identifying appropriate EbA measures recognises the need to understand the vulnerability and risks of the communities to the impacts of climate change such as flooding and landslides.
