In the Philippines, the GIZ project “Responsible Land Governance in Mindanao (RLGM)†supports partners in making public lands managed by national agencies, local governments and communities, -- including indigenous cultural communities – become oriented towards sustainability and conflict sensitivity.
Artisanal and small-scale gold mining (ASGM) is one of the most significant sources of mercury release into the environment in developing countries. In the Philippines, ASGM occurs in more than 40 out of the 81 provinces and provides important subsistence-level income for about 500,000 miners including significant number of women and children. It supports the livelihood of about two (2) million people and comprises traditional and gold rush miners, most of whom operate without legal mining titles.
The objectives of the Global Partnerships for Improving the Food Cold Chain (FCC) in the Philippines are to identify, develop and stimulate the application of low-carbon, energy-efficient refrigeration technologies and business practices for use in the food cold chain industry and, at the same time, increase food safety and security. In so doing, the FCC Project combines the reduction of refrigeration emissions and the reduction of energy use throughout the cold chain sector.
